Welcome to my blog about technology safety tips.  I was inspired to put this together because of the concern that I have for my many friends and neighbors who always have questions about what they should do.  They are very considerate of my time and often refrain from calling me and end up having problems which are very difficult to diagnose and repair.  I'm hoping the tips will help you in finding ways to make your computing experience safe and more enjoyable.  I'll try to update my blog as I learn new information, so check back regularly.

If you have questions that you'd like me to look into, please reply to the blog and post your questions.  I can't guarantee how fast I'll get to them, but I'll try to do it as fast as possible.

When I put together a PowerPoint presentation to address this subject with my ward members, I realized that we need to look at security as a "layered" approach.  The bad guys seem to have endless resources, but we also have a lot of companies that are watching out for us.  Thus, we shouldn't despair.  We can win this battle, but we must follow a few guidelines.  What I am attempting to do is give you guidelines to help keep you safe.  I can't guarantee that you'll never be compromised.  That would be foolish on my part.  What I can guarantee, is if you follow a few standard steps, you'll put yourself in a better position to win.

You may have noticed that my blog has a title image that includes 3 main categories, Strong Anti-Virus Software, Web Filtering via DNS, and Strong Passwords.  These will be the 3 foundations for a strong security plan.  As with any attack by the enemy, we'll need to shift our defenses over time.  But I'll try to keep the ideas within these three categories as long as it makes sense.
